Jarne Daem is an illustrator with a big love for anything and everything magical or fantastical. From demons to dragons and even gentle nature spirits like the Bonkels.
Currently living in Sint-Niklaas, he grew up in Brasschaat, Belgium, where he was surrounded by nature and could let his imagination run wild.
That fascination with all things magical was, and still is,
a big source of inspiration. As an illustrator he always tries to capture this sense of magic and wonder, even in more commonplace subjects like the world of animals or history.
Jarne often tries to combine the playful and visually interesting with the educational, as well. Why shouldn’t learning be fun and colourful while being correctly researched and based in fact.
“When I was a child, our class would visit the forest next to my school. We would place little clothes into the hollows of the trees and tie little scarves onto the branches.
We always started the day with a bit of magic and imagination. 15 years later those mornings still hold
a special place in my heart.”
